The view from my hotel room: The Royal Liver Building |
I'm back from the British Academy of Management conference, an international conference which was held in Liverpool this year.
It was an interesting trip; very tiring, but a good experience. I was up at 6am and didn't return to my room until midnight, so unsurprisingly I was knackered and aching from carrying my things everywhere and being on my feet all day. My supervisor very kindly drove me up (instead of us both taking the train) so a 4 hour trip in the car with her and my iPhone GPS proved a hilarious experience.
(On a dual carriageway) "U-turn here": WHAT?!
Socialising isn't my forte, but I had to do plenty of socialising around the conference (and swatting away slimy sleazy creeps lol). My supervisor coined me the 'ice maiden' or 'ice queen' as I was so cold towards the men who tried to make a pass at me. Haha. What can I say? I can be very cold.
Visited the docks and the TATE Art Gallery too, and the Anglican Cathedral for the conference gala dinner where a Beatles Tribute band played. Was a nice change of surroundings, doing different things. It was also interesting to have spent such a long time with someone and almost following their way of doing things and their kind of lifestyle.
Spent 3 days 2 nights there but barely had anytime to rest. Driving to the Aintree Racecourse and back, and walking around climbing floor after floor of stairs. Glad to be home and first day back in office yesterday was a 'moving office' day. So.. more stairs to climb haha.
The new term is starting and I must motivate and discipline myself more. Things have slowed down considerably and it's so easy to lose direction and momentum; I will not let that happen to me.
